Linden Hills Congregational United Church of Christ
4200 Upton Ave S Minneapolis, MN 612-927-4603
Children and Worship All children (and their parents, if desired) are invited to participate in a short children’s sermon with Reverend Howard during the church service. Following the children’s sermon, children usually exit the Sanctuary to participate in Sunday School activities. Children who are uncomfortable leaving are welcome to stay for the entire church service.
Activity packets filled with drawing and coloring materials are available for use by children during the worship service. They are located in a basket at the back of the Sanctuary, or can be brought by an usher at any time during the service.
Nursery The nursery is located just outside the west (double) doors of the Sanctuary and is available during the entire worship service. It is a bright and cheerful space, containing toys and books to keep babies and toddlers happy. The nursery is staffed every Sunday by parent volunteers.
Sunday School From September through May all children from preschool through 6th grade are invited to attend Sunday School.
The preschool classroom, for ages 4-6, is located down the hall and to the left from the sanctuary. Through Godly play curriculum Bible stories are told with manipulatives and the story reinforced with arts, crafts, books, music, and other activities. The atmosphere is calm and creative and the children love it!
Grade-schoolers head up to the third floor classrooms to participate in our Rotation Sunday School curriculum. This dynamic program is built around 4-6 week rotation units that focus on a single Biblical theme or story. The units break down into weekly workshops that take creative approaches to the material using art, drama, music, and media. The third-floor classrooms are newly renovated, colorful, well-designed spaces, giving energy to the learning process.
Teens Youth Ministry is aimed at encouraging teen involvement in the entire life of the church. Youth Group activities are teen-driven and provide experiences in worship, learning, socialization and service. Activities include “breakfast club” programs on Sunday mornings, service projects, bowling, lock-ins, and a church-wide annual talent show. Service trips to other parts of the country, retreats and camps are offered each year.
Confirmation Confirmation is a time for young people to grow in their faith and understanding of the church. It is a time of exploration. We use the UCC curriculum, Affirming Faith, as the foundation of the program. This is supplemented with mentoring and other activities. Confirmation at Linden Hills UCC is a two year program for teens between 7th and 10th grades; we are currently in the first year.
